The beginning of a New Year is always a weird time for me. The actual NYE is always an anti climax situation and I usually stay in and go to bed early, preferring to instead enjoy getting things together on the actual NYD.
This year however is a little different as I’ve actually bought tickets to an all night disco and will be away for a couple of days. I’m going to use this time to get a perspective on things and do some planning for the year away from home.
I’ve always been a great plan writer, usually for a five year plan, but now I’ve achieved a lot of things I set out to do five, ten and twenty years ago, my priorities have moved more into maintenance mode, meaning I can focus on smaller goals, smaller challenges.
Last year, I discovered The Business Bakery’s 100 Day Goal and after a period of confusion, found it really useful for re-establishing those planning skills that I had somehow cast aside. But I found 100 days was a bit long winded when in maintenance mode – and as most of my tasks now involve directing a company, scheduling more time for my children and developing properties, I favoured half that time, but split into four, bringing them close to nature by following the seasons – or in reality, the solstices and the equinoxes. I’m a nature person at heart and so involving just a little bit of astrology, to me, makes perfect sense.
I have, over the last 20 years completely changed my life around, up ladders, down ladders and now, proceeding at a nice gentle canter, life is good. But I still get stuck, so here I go with my year of 2017 and I start with a bit of a boost and time to spare with 50 days of asking myself – What Am I Doing.
